Laurel Edelman, Director of Business Development joined Requis Pharmaceuticals from a Director position at IMS Health, Plymouth Meeting, PA. Her previous roles included COO of Sage Analytica, as well as 11 years in senior sales and operational roles at SDI Health. Prior to SDI, Laurel was Director, Product Commercialization at AstraZeneca in Wayne, PA, so she brings marketing experience to Requis. Her degree in advanced biochemistry is from the University of Saskatchewan
Nigel J. Smart, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer and co-Founder of Requis Pharma was a Professor at McMaster University in Canada before discovering and implementing major new biotechnological advances during senior R&D posts at Allelix (Canada), SmithKline, Sterling Winthrop and BioProX here in the US, and later as Founding CEO of Inflammatix, Malvern, PA (1995). Nigel is Director/Managing Partner of Smart Consulting Group in West Chester, PA, and is known as a sought-after opinion leader in the Pharma/Biotech industry, especially within lean manufacturing, QA/QC and FDA regulations. He is solution-focused and has outstanding knowledge of the industry.
Dr. Sigmund Kulessa, Director of Strategy and CMO brings deep experience in shepherding early stage medical technologies. His Biotech background includes senior roles in Pivotal Therapeutics Inc. and Skelegen LLC. In a previous role at Johnson & Johnson Corporate, Sigmund worked across varied business units to identify and fund external innovation opportunities. Academically, his background includes a MSE in Biomedical Engineering from U. Penn, a MBA from Rutgers University; he also gained a MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in NJ, Brunswick.
Marie Johnston, CPA, Director of Operations and Board Treasurer gained her MBA from Devry/Keller Business School in 2010. Marie has senior-level financial and operational experience from manufacturing companies, accounting firms and a nationwide software firm. She joined Requis Pharma from a role as Director of Operations in TTC, a Philadelphia-based clinical trials data company, acquired by IMS Health in 2012; Marie was a key driver of the acquisition transaction, and brings superb senior level financial, HR and start-up company operational capability to Requis.
Mark A. Pimley R.Ph. VP, Pharmaceutics founded, owns and runs “The Compounding Pharmacist” in West Chester, PA. Mark is an outstandingly inventive Pharmacist, and has been involved with several start-up ventures, including Ceptaris, recently divested to Actelion. He brings excellent formulation experience and inventive product ideas to Requis, as well as in-depth knowledge of the real-world unmet medical needs of patients, who he interacts with on a daily basis. Mark holds an adjunct Professorship at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science, now part of USIP.
Lars J.S. Knutsen, Ph.D., CEO and President of Requis Pharmaceuticals Inc. held high-ranking R&D posts in Glaxo (UK), Novo Nordisk (Denmark), Vernalis and Ionix Pharma in Cambridge, UK where he was Director of Chemistry, joining Cephalon (US) in 2005. A neuroscience “drug hunter”, Lars has been closely involved in progressing 5 drug candidates to the clinic, including the marketed anticonvulsant Gabitril™. Known as an innovator and a gifted Pharma/Biotech leader, he has held senior roles in 4 successful Biotech start-ups, is in demand as a conference speaker.
